SEBRING, Fla. – CORE autosport earned the pole and fastest race lap at this year’s 12 Hours of Sebring en route to a top-five finish at the legendary endurance race and opening round of the American Le Mans Series.
CORE autosport’s No. 05 ORECA FLM09 started from the Prototype Challenge class pole position after Colin Braun set a new Sebring PC qualifying lap record the previous day.Co-driver Jon Bennett started the car, but quickly ran into trouble when a GT-class Corvette tapped him into a spin, causing Bennett to lose position and damaging the rear bodywork on the car.
Braun and Mark Wilkins did their best to push the car back to the front of the field. Braun set the fastest PC lap of the race while regaining lost laps and Wilkins briefly put the car into the class lead, but as the sun set, the team could not maintain its pace and the No. 05 shuffled down the order.
