Robertson Racing anticipate strong showing at Road America

Round six of this season’s American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron comes from Road America next weekend (August 19-20) where Robertson Racing are eyeing their most competitive outing of the campaign to date.

The 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin has barely changed since hosting its first race way back in 1955 and has subsequently gone on to become America’s most revered road course.

That it is also one of the fastest should play into the hands of Robertson Racing whose self-developed Ford GT is well suited to the high-speed layout which will this season host a four-hour endurance race.

While the Braselton, GA-based outfit has made significant progress at every circuit visited so far in 2011, it is at Road America in particular where the #04 driver combination of David Murry and Anthony Lazzaro should be at their most potent so far. And having regularly troubled the wealth of factory machinery contesting the Series’ GT class this year, hopes are high of once more fighting for a top-five finish.

On the other side of the garage Melanie Snow again joins regular driver Andrea Robertson in the #40 car after surviving the deluge on debut at Mid-Ohio last time out. The all-female crew also has the potential to spring a surprise with Snow picking up the GT Challenge class victory at Road America in 2009.

Team Manager Andrew ‘H’ Smith: “We’re optimistic of having a good run at Road America next weekend. At the start of the season I’d have bet on it being our strongest showing of the campaign, but after the Lime Rock podium perhaps that’s a bit ambitious! Because of the circuit’s high-speed nature and Ford’s power, our #04 car should be in the mix for a top-five finish, while Andrea and Melanie will continue to build on their partnership.

“It’s a really busy part of the season with so many races packed into such a short period. The guys have worked so hard to turn around the cars following the torrential rain at Mid-Ohio, especially as both needed some essential new parts.”

See how Robertson Racing fares at Road America with www.ESPN3.com’s live race coverage on Saturday August 20 from 2.45pm (CT). ABC’s television re-run begins at 4.30pm (ET) the following day.

Meanwhile European viewers can tune into Motors TV’s live coverage which kicks off at 9.45pm (CET) on Saturday.
