Following a series of wins and podium finishes in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, Al Carter is entering the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Baltimore this weekend with a goal in mind; win the 2013 GTC class for the second year in a row.
Winning the 2012 Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT last year was the greatest achievement so far in Al Carter's racing career. This year, Al Carter will co-drive No. 68 Jetset Magazine / Horizon Services / B+ Foundation / Eagle Tech TRG Porsche GT3 in the two-hour Grand Prix with Frenchman Kévin Estre, one of the most recognized Porsche drivers.
Al Carter with the help of friend Kévin Estre will try to again win the highly contested GTC class of the ALMS in the streets of Baltimore on Saturday, August 31. The Inner Harbor Baltimore circuit measures 2.02 miles in length with 12 turns. The long front stretch features a temporary chicane to slow cars before crossing a light-rail line prior to start-finish and a hard right-hander for Turn 1. The course also features a tight hairpin turn and a run around Camden Yards - home of Major League Baseball's Baltimore Orioles.
Cancer survivor Al Carter is one of the "Ambassadors" for The B+ Foundation, one of the most recognized childhood cancer foundations in the nation. To kick off the month of September "Childhood Cancer Awareness Month", Al elected to put the B+ logo on his racecar for the 2013 Grand Prix of Baltimore.
"Myself, and the two Kevin's (Buckler and Estre), have been planning on racing this TRG Porsche with this driver lineup since March. So we are all excited and optimistic to race our Porsche through the streets of Baltimore,' said Carter. "I can't say enough about the venue of Baltimore. The crowds are great, the circuit is tough, just getting to drive here is cool. But after winning the GTC class here last year, Kevin and are very focused on a repeat. Also living so close in Wilmington Delaware, I'm going to have a bunch of family and friends in attendance. Wilmington is also the home of The B+ Foundation, as well as Horizon Services who are joining us for this race."
Kévin Estre is one of the top Porsche drivers racing in Europe. Last year Kévin became Porsche Mobil1 Supercup vice-champion and also won Rookie of the Year title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. Kévin only missed winning the 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland by 3 points. In 2013 the Frenchman is having a good season. He is currently leading the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland with 3 rounds to go after already winning 5 races. Estre also competes in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and is currently ranked 6th overall in that series.
The 2013 Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT brings three days of 180 mph excitement to the heart of Baltimore on Labor Day weekend. The stars and cars of the IZOD IndyCar Series and the American Le Mans Series are expected to fight for the ultimate win downtown Baltimore where over 100,000 spectators are expected to attend the race weekend.
