Australian GP: FP3 red-flagged as Oliver Bearman spins

Oliver Bearman's Australian Grand Prix weekend goes from bad to worse with another red flag causing incident ahead of qualifying.

Oliver Bearman has brought out a red flag for the second time this weekend ahead of the season-opening 2025 Australian Grand Prix.

The Haas driver had already crashed during Free Practice 1 yesterday which saw him miss out on the second practice session as the American team worked hard to repair the car - repairs which included installing a new power unit. 

 

Now, with the third practice session being even more important for the driver after losing vital track time yesterday, the British driver spun on his first flying lap. He dropped the left rear tyre onto the grass at the entry to Turn 11, sending the car into a spin before getting beached in the gravel. 

The session was red-flagged while the marshals cleared the car off the track and onto a loader. He is out of the session.

 

While speaking to the media following his crash yesterday, the 19-year-old stated:

“The guys did a great job to try to get the car back out but we just ran out of time. I just had a small mistake at Turn 10, which put me a bit wide and out there it’s very bumpy and I, unfortunately, lost the car.”

Asked if the first crash would impact his weekend, he was eager to fully utilise FP3:

“It’s not over. I struggled a little bit, but I really felt confident in the car – maybe too much. I really felt at home and nice in the car. It was building up really nicely, and the mistake was unfortunate. It’s by no means over. FP3 is a long session and then into qualifying.”

The driver needed nothing but an easy Saturday after a confidence-hurting performance on the Friday.

The session resumed at 12:41 local time.
