Porteiro aiming at the podium in home race
Spanish round of the WTCC this weekend. The "Ricardo Tormo" circuit of Valencia is going to house the third round of the season within the electrified athmosphere surrounding the Louis Vuitton Cup semifinals.
The most awaited driver on Valencia's track will be Felix Porteiro. The Spaniard, born in the very close Castellon, will have on his side the support of all fans, a further reason to aim at the first podium of his WTCC career.
Alessandro Zanardi will surely not lack of motivations too: BMW Team Italy-Spain technicians worked hard to solve problems arisen at Zandvoort, that should not affect the Bolognese's 320si anymore. The ballast mechanism will assign 5kg to Zanardi's car, while Porteiro's one will be free of any handicap weight. Race one is scheduled for Sunday at 11.45, while the second manche will begin at 15.30. The event will be covered live by Eurosport.
Umberto Grano (Project Manager)
"Valencia is not quite the circuit that suits better our car, but we have all what is needed to be competitive on all tracks. This will be the home race for Porteiro who proved so far to be fast and to have the potentialities to be a protagonist on a tough championship like the WTCC. Zanardi had some problems in Holland but I am sure he will have is revenge this Sunday".
Roberto Ravaglia (Team Manager)
"We decided to remain in Zandvoort the Monday after the race to spot what slowed down Zanardi during the weekend. We found the solutions we were seeking and the car is competitive again. Porteiro will play home, on a track he knows quite well and I believe he will not have problems in finding the right setup. His apprenticeship in WTCC is going pretty well and I think he deserves a podium".
