From March 30 to April 1, Tiago Monteiro will participate in the season's second FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) meeting, which takes place on the Ricardo Tormo circuit located 20 kilometers west of Valencia, Spain.
Three weeks after his double disappointment at Monza, where race and mechanical incidents prevented him from securing points, the Portuguese driver has set the objective of securing his first points, so as to get back in the saddle for the championship.
Tiago Monteiro has already brought home one win from Valencia, in 2010 at the wheel of the SEAT Leon TDI, and he is tackling this meeting with confidence, even though he does not yet know which version of the Leon, 1.6 liter Turbo or Diesel he will be driving this coming weekend. "The team never misses out on a chance to work and it is still evaluating which will be the best solution from a technical point of view. At any rate, and regardless of the engine we use, the objective is still the same, securing the most possible points in both championships," Tiago Monteiro declared.
The configuration of the Valencia track is very different from the Monzo autodrome where the pole position is taken at close to 180 kmh, compared to almost 40 kmh less in Spain. A more technical circuit could be good news for SEAT and Tiago. "I am curious to see how the BMWs and Chevrolets behave on a track like this. It is a circuit where our cars generally adapt whell and I hope this will play out in our favor. I can guarantee I will give it my all," Tiago Monteiro concluded.
The Valencia races will be broadcast on Eurosport, with qualifying on Saturday at 4:00 pm and the races on Sunday at 1:15 pm and 4:00 pm.
