Tiago Monteiro and JAS Motorsport Honda secured the best result of their young career in the World Touring Car Championship, FIA WTCC, at the Shanghai International Circuit today.

Tiago Monteiro drove superbly to cross the finish line in seventh place in race one after a spectacular performance that saw him make up 10 places.

Initially, Tiago was caught up in the pack down in 17th position, a place where a driver can be very vulnerable in the first few hundred meters of the race.

Two jostling was triggered in two places on the circuit, but Tiago Monteiro used his experience to avoid a collision.

He completed the first lap in 11th position and then began the second phase of his rise through the field, which saw him in 9th by lap four and then 7th thanks to two beautiful overtaking maneuvers.

The second race saw a similar scenario. Tiago Monteiro moved up from 17th to 9th place. Alas, the Portuguese driver slipped to 11th place and out of the points in the last lap.

Although not securing a point, Tiago still had the satisfaction of securing an excellent fast lap, faster than the fourth place finisher and faster than a representative from each of the three major car manufacturers, who have raced in the WTCC for some time.

"Myself and the entire team, were very pleased with our performance in the first two races but we struggled to qualify here due to mechanical glitches.

We worked with the race in mind where the car was much more competitive,"says Tiago Monteiro,"In the first race I managed to avoid the confusion of the first lap to win places.

Then, as soon as the opportunity presented itself, I moved up even higher. For the second race, the Honda Civic's settings had been significantly modified and its performance was even better, even if it didn't result in a better outcome.

We still have work to do to improve the car, but this weekend has shown that we have taken another step forward. We learned a lot about the car and we collected a lot of data that will be very useful.

Both races were very good and the Shanghai team is to be commended for the work they have done."

The season finale will be held on November 18 on the streets of Macau.
