THE FIVE LEON TDI AMONG THE TOP TEN IN MEXICO
Gabriele Tarquini, the fastest SEAT on third position
The qualifying session of the second round of the World Touring Championship that will be staged this morning on the Mexican racetrack of Puebla, saw the five drivers of the SEAT Sport team getting a place among the top ten. In the second and definitive qualifying session, which is only open for the top ten drivers of the first session, Gabriele Tarquini was the best qualified SEAT driver, on third, ahead of Rickard Rydell (4th), Yvan Muller (5th), Tiago Monteiro (6th) and Jordi Gene (9th).
Yvan Muller y Rickard Rydell were the fastest of the two free sessions in the morning, but the first qualifying session showed already, that the BMWs are extremely fast on the Mexican track. Tarquini was second, while Gene set the third fastest time after a last effort in the last few instants of the session.
In the definitive session, Yvan Muller was the first to clock a fast time, although the last try to set the pole was for Tarquini, who clocked the best first two intermediate times, but was not able to achieve his final target by one tenth of second.
Gabriele Tarquini: "I tried to lap as fast as I could, but my pace was not enough to get the BMWs and it became clear that there is no big difference between the cars despite the results in Curitiba. The start of the first race is a rolling start and this is good for us. I'll try to make use of the first few laps to take the lead of the race, if possible. However, and under normal conditions it will be very difficult to fight for the victory".
