RYAN SHARP is 3RD OVERALL (Winner Independent Drivers)
2006 Puebla Day 3 Sharp, Coronel
Oustanding performance of JAS Motorsport in Puebla for the 6th act of the World TouringCar Championship, where Ryan Sharp claimed the third position in Race 1 while winning the Indipendents Driver Class.
Ryan left behind a full squad of top teams and works cars including BMW, Seat and Chevrolet, being beaten only by Alfa Romeo
It's the first time this season (and very rare circumstance overall) that an Indipendent driver steps on the podium, and Ryan really deserved this great result after claiming the 3rd position in Qualifying and setting the best lap of the race too.
"Third position is a fantastic result" said Ryan after Qualifying "We have grown race by race and we came here confident because the car was so good here last year. To be on provisional pole a few minutes before the end of the sassion was great and I would have liked to stay there but being where I am makes it more exciting".
In race 2 he did not finish due to a collision "I hoped to challenge the Alfas in the first race but that plan was soon out of question when I badly damaged my rear suspension. I am a little disappointed in the second race. To be honest I made an optimistic move on Tom Coronel at turn 1 and I went wide. A few corners later I was hit by someone els and that was the end for me. Overall this has been an amazing week-end"

Ryan has capitalized the progresses of the Accord which confirms to be the car to beat in Puebla, where also Pierre Yves Corthals was consistently competitive during the whole event, claiming the 3rd best performance in the first free practice. Only unlucky circumstances in qualifying, due to trafic, prevented him to set a good performance (he was P4 with only ten minutes left, in the final and decisive run he was slowed down by another competitor). The qualifying position (P13) allowed him to collect only a P13 and P10 in the races.
"Either Ryan or Pierre have been always within the top 5 during the whole event" says Alessandro Mariani "which confirms that both drivers are now mature to fight with works drivers, and that our car, as we have been saying for long time now, is a top competitive car at the same level, sometimes even higher, than works cars. Here in Puebla we have got an outstanding result, sooner or later we will get what we really deserve, an overall win"
