CHEVROLET DRIVERS HAPPY WITH CAR IN MEXICAN TEST

Alain Menu Fourth Fastest

Today's testing session for round two of the 2008 World Touring Car Championship in Puebla, Mexico called for caution as the drivers rediscovered the repaved Autodromo Miguel E Abed-Amozoc. The recently laid tarmac was still very `green' as the drivers took to the track in very hot temperatures, but conditions improved as the session went on and more rubber was put down, allowing the times to improve near the end of the session. The fastest lap, however, was still some time away from the 2006 pole position, indicating the newness of the track. Alain Menu held the fastest time for the biggest part of the session before being relegated to fourth.

QUOTES

Alain Menu (4th): "It's very slippery, almost like driving on ice. It got a bit better near the end of the session, but only so on the racing line. We didn't touch the race set-up in this session as there was just no point. I couldn't have gone much faster in these conditions anyway. Tomorrow will be better when more rubber is put down, so the times should come down as well."

Rob Huff (10th): "The track is very inconsistent, with a lot of dirt and dust, so I just build up things gently. The car was good at the start of the session on older tyres, but not as good when we put new tyres on. It seems that the older the tyres, the better the car handles."

Nicola Larini (12th): "It was a very difficult session, with the track still being very green. You can't put a wheel outside the racing line for fear of spinning or going off. We'll see what tomorrow brings."
