Vanished podium for Porteiro at Pau's roulette
03/06/2007 - The city track of Pau, stage of the fourth round of the WTCC Championship, did not betray expectations and gifted fans a thrilling racing weekend.
The BMW Team Italy-Spain is only partially satisfied by the French round: the four points earned by the fifth place of Felix Porteiro in race one are a good result, but a great regret characterized the Spaniard retirement in race two right when he was holding the third position.
Tough weekend for Alessandro Zanardi, who went out in race one and finished race two in ninth position, very close to points zone.
Next appointment with the WTCC will take place at Brno, Czech Republic, in two weeks time.
Umberto Grano (Project Manager)
"As I feared, Pau has been a very tricky circuit. Porteiro is growing race after race: this morning he got the fifth position with a wise tactic and in race two he would have certainly obtained the podium. Unfortunately, a problem with one of the absorbers, probably due to a harsh contact with a curb, forced him to the retirement.
Pau is not the most favourable circuit for Zanardi. Despite setting off from the back, Alessandro has been able to recover up to the ninth position, very very close to a point that would have been well deserved".
Roberto Ravaglia (Team Manager)
"Porteiro has been the first BMW driver in race one thanks to his fifth position. This is a good result for us but we come back to Italy a bit disappointed for the faded podium in race two, Felix put a lot of grit on that.
After the exit of this morning, Zanardi started the second manche from the back of the grid. For this reason I think it was impossible for him to obtain more out of race two."
