The Cruzes "Re-Discover" A Faster And Warmer Marrakech
Huff, Muller And Menu in the top ten, despite Alain's close encounter with a wall
MARRAKECH, 30th April 2010 The WTCC's second visit to the Marrakech street circuit started with a surprise, as today's testing session proved that the track conditions are significantly different than those encountered last year. On one side, the weather is much warmer (with a temperature of 34o. today), on the other the modifications to the track design has made it much faster.
Today was a typical Friday working session, which ended with Rob Huff third (at less than one tenth from the best time), Yvan Muller sixth and Alain Menu eighth. The Swiss driver hit the wall at the end of the session.
Rob Huff (3rd): "It was a re-adaptation session after the long break that followed Curitiba. The track is still quite "green" and dirty, I think it will improve as we race on it and it gets more rubber, but most of all, it's quite a different track from last year. The works that have been done to accomodate single-seaters, basically lower kerbs and wider chicane exits, have made it faster. We will have to review the gear ratios and work on the set-up to correct the under-steer".
Yvan Muller (6th): "With a faster track than last year, we go out of the chicanes quicker and also top speed on the straight is higher. The surface is still quite dirty, there was not much grip today, so we had a lot of understeer and it was difficult to put the car in turns properly. Tonight we will work on set-ups and gear ratios and we hope track conditions will improve tomorrow".
Alain Menu (8th): "Track conditions were not easy today and unfortunately, I lost the car in the last chicane few minutes from the end of the session, hitting the wall, first with the ear and then with the front. I just lost grip completely, going too fast into the corner. The boys will now repair the car in order to be fully ready tomorrow morning."
