Tiago Monteiro finishes 8th in the 2nd race at Monza after an amazing comeback from the last starting grid !
Tiago Monteiro wrapped up his race weekend at Monza with a point for 8th place in the second race. The finish does not reflect the competitiveness of the SEAT Leon No. 18 car's driver, who proved able to pull off the feat of moving up from 24th place on the starting grid in the 2nd race to 8th at the finish.
After some fine qualifying where he was able to record the 11th best time, the best of the SEAT drivers not given a TDI engine, Tiago Monteiro made an excellent start in the first race, before being waylaid by Stefano d'Aste in the first turn. "I had a good start, moving up three places in the straightaway," Tiago explains, "but moving out of the first chicane I saw Stefano d'Aste come out of nowhere. He cut off the chicane and hit me hard. I found myself sandwiched between him and Jorg Muller. My SEAT car was seriously damaged and I had to abandon. The transmission, steering and rear end were destroyed! The problem is that it ruined my weekend, the stewards really need to do something about this type of incident so it doesn't happen again because it is very harmful to an entire team."
Once his SEAT Leon was put back in order, Tiago was able to take part in the weekend's second race. From 24th on the starting grid, he moved up to 8th, a unique feat for the season, dutifully pointed out by Jaime Puig, SEAT Sport director, who was keen to praise Tiago for his contribution to the SEAT Sport team, which is now only 10 points from BMW in the general rankings. "This weekend still leaves me feel like something is unfinished because I know we could have done much better. But we shouldn't dwell on the past. I am extremely happy with my second race and the team as well ! One more point for the team is important. I will do everything I can to finish the season well and to give SEAT Sport a good finish at Macau and help Yvan Muller win the World Championship !" Tiago declared.
