Monza's weekend, last European round of the WTCC before the two final races in Asia, has been steep for BMW Team Italy-Spain.
Alessandro Zanardi, eighth in race one, concluded the second race in seventh position, first of the BMW drivers. The three points harvested by the Bolognese driver today allowed him to reach level 32 points in classification, 14 more than what obtained during last season.
Unlucky weekend for Felix Porteiro instead, who has been involved in a contact with the Honda of James Thompson in race one forcing him to an early retirement due to the damages reported to the front left suspension of his BMW 320si. In the second manche the young Spaniard has been author of a thrilling recovery that took him to the twelfth final position from the back of the grid.
Roberto Ravaglia (Team Principal):
"Zanardi has been protagonist of two good races and especially in race two he could not have done any better, considering the advantage that technical regulations give to turbodiesel engines over petrol ones. Porteiro has been involved in the initial bagarre of race one but, anyway, he has been good in recovering several positions in race two."
