Zanardi and Porteiro awaited protagonists at Monza
A few days are still to go to the Monza round of the WTCC that will be the second last racing weekend of the World Touring Car Championship. A record crowd is expected for Sunday, most of which will reach Monza from the whole Italy to support Alex Zanardi.
The BMW Team Italy-Spain's 320si BMWs showed marked progresses two weeks back in England and both Zanardi and Porteiro are awaited as protagonists for the forthcoming weekend.
On the Italian track, one of the fastest circuit of the whole championship, the stream-slips game will be very important in qualifying while engine power and brake balance will be determinant for the race.
In terms of ballast, Zanardi and Porteiro will respectively carry on board 5kg and 20kg of handicap weight.
Roberto Ravaglia (Team Manager): "Porteiro showed at Brands Hatch that our 320si reached a competitiveness degree that should allow us to be protagonists in the remaining of the season. Zanardi was unlucky in Britain, but Monza always exalted him therefore I expect a great performance from him. Both drivers love this track and I reckon that the victory can be within our reach, that would be a very useful result for the teams classification as well."
Umberto Grano (Project Manager): "I am a bit concerned about weather conditions. Rain is scheduled for Saturday and I'd be sorry if qualifying will be conditioned by the wet track.
Porteiro showed anyway the improvements of our cars. If drivers will manage to exploit stream-slips in qualifying, I think that we can strongly aim at getting good result in races".
