Ryan Sharp with JAS Motorsport in the WTCC 2006
It's Ryan Sharp the second driver of JAS Motorsport in the WTCC 2006. The The 26-year old Scotsman has joined Pierre-Yves Corthals in the team, and will drive the second Honda Accord Euro R.
Ryan is at his first experience with touring car racing, after a long career with single seaters which culminated in the GP2 Championship in 2005.
"I am delighted to have signed with JAS Motorsport" says Ryan" and I am really looking forward getting behind the wheel this week-end at Monza. I had numerous options available to me for the 2006 season but I preferred to take the new challenge of Touring Car Racing rather than continuing the experience with GP2 which was highly disappointing last year. I was fast but the car was absolutely not reliable and I could not really get what I feel I could deserve. The WTCC is the right alternative to become a professional driver, it's a highly competitive racing category and one of the few, together with F1, where so many car manufacturers fight to win the championship. I do believe" Ryan continues "to have taken the best choice, the Accord is very competitive and we look forward for great results".
Ryan Sharp will participate to the Indipendent Trophy, however the Team counts on Ryan's skills for more ambitious results.
"It goes without saying that Ryan needs a few races to get familiar with the car, the championship and the Team" Alessandro Mariani confirms "I have no doubts that he will be competitive, but he took a "last-minute" call from JAS and had no opportunities for testing. However I am sure that he will quickly get confidence with the car".
