Constructors' championship as the first objective at Macau
The fascinating round of Macau is going to conclude this weekend the 2007 World Touring Car Championship. The "Guia Circuit", one of the most demanding city tracks of the world, will house the final battle both for the drivers' and constructors' championships. The BMW Team Italy-Spain, the BMW Team Germany and the BMW Team UK will share the common objective to conquer the third consecutive WTCC title for the Monaco based brand.
Alessandro Zanardi: "In a way, I used the New York Marathon to help prepare for the season finale. To be there was a fantastic experience. I came fourth in my class, and was quicker than I had hoped. I really didn.t expect that. Now I am highly motivated for Macau. We have not been as competitive as we would have liked in the past. Hopefully it will be a different story this time. I have a new clutch regulator on the steering wheel, which should allow me to be as quick as the other drivers in the hairpin. We have always lost a lot of time there in the past. For this reason, I am very confident".
Felix Porteiro: "I am really looking forward to my first appearance in Macau. Over the last few weeks I have spent several hours in front of the computer, getting to know the virtual circuit. Once on site, I will use the time before the first test on Thursday to learn the track and ensure I am as well prepared as possible".
Roberto Ravaglia (Team Manager): "The new technical solution devised for the clutch should allow Zanardi to be quick at the hairpin too, a tricky corner whereby the previous system showed some limits in the past. Porteiro will have to learn this not very easy track, but his qualities will allow him to fill quite quickly the gap with the more experienced drivers".
Umberto Grano (Project Manager): "The Macau race is always a gamble and maybe it is not by chance that the track gets into shape between all the casinos that animate the city. For BMW it is very important to obtain both titles and therefore it will be crucial to get away from the front rows. In this race accidents are very frequent and a special care will thus be needed too".
