JAS MOTORSPORT BACK TO THE TOP IN MACAU
GIOVANARDI CLAIMS 4TH PLACE IN THE LAST EVENT OF WTCC 2006
Happy end for JAS Motorsport in the WTCC 2006:the last event in Macau saw an outstanding performance by the three times european champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, who claimed the 4th place in race 1 and the 6th place in race 2 after a hard, but fair, fight with the most competitive works cars and drivers.
The italian star gave his best in the tricky "Guia" circuit of Macau, showing the real potential of the Honda Accord Euro R.
In race 1,starting from the 4th row,Giovanardi showed immediately his experience surviving an horrible bottleneck at the Lisboa corner, excaping the Dirk Muller's BMW wich went sideways just in front of him.In the same corner he masterly overtook the championship leader Farfus.
He concluded the race in 4th position while chasing Yvan Muller's works SEAT for the podium.
In race 2 Fabrizio battled from start to finish with the 3 times-in-a-row champion Andy Priaulx, but his several attempts to overtake the british champion were all unsuccessful and he could not do better then the 6th place, although he and his car would have deserved a much better result.
"This week-end has been great for me and my team"explained Giovanardi "We have worked so well and I was close to get on the podium.I think the performance of the team and of the car was extremely good, as I was consistently fast.Andy Priaulx was very slow during the first couple of laps and I hoped he could let me go rather then taking useless risks. However it was a fair fight, and I'm happy that he won again the world's title."concluded Giovanardi.
"The driving skills of Giovanardi are out of question" concluded JAS Team Manager Alessandro Mariani "he is a champion and we thank him a lot for having taken our car back to the position that JAS and the Accord deserve, at the end of one season of frustrating results. We knew that the Accord is one of the best cars in the WTCC, and this race is the evidence of how good JAS have worked in these years in spite of far-far lower budgets than our competitors. I do hope things could change in the near future, so to take Honda and JAS-made race cars more frequently and consistently in the top positions of the WTCC"
