Lopez "intends" to stay with Citroen for 2016
Two-time WTCC champion Jose Maria Lopez says it is his "intention" to remain with Citroen for 2016, but wants to take time to celebrate his success before holding contract talks.
Lopez joined the WTCC full-time with newcomers Citroen in 2014 and has delivered back-to-back titles, wrapping up his most recent success with his 20th series win in Race 1 in Thailand.
The Argentinian, who has now joined Andy Priaulx and teammate Yvan Muller in winning multiple WTCC titles, is yet to commit 2016.
When asked about going for a third title, he replied: "You’re going too fast – let me enjoy this moment!"
"We will see," he then added. "We have to talk with the team. Of course, the intention is to be together next year but still there are some things to go through and we will see if we can arrive at an agreement because it’s really nice to be in this team.
"I always said last year it would be my dream to win the world title and now I have done it again so I just want to take some time to celebrate and enjoy.
"It’s been hard work, really tough races this year and now it’s time to relax a bit and then look forward."
Not chasing records
With nine wins to his name in 2015 and two races to go, Lopez could still overhaul his 2014 tally of 10 victories - which stands as the record for most victories in a modern-era WTCC season.
But the Argentinian will head to the Qatar season finale "relaxed", unconcerned with milestones and statistics.
"I don’t race for the records, I race to enjoy in a fantastic team with fantastic teammates," he said.
"I have seen the track from the MotoGP races and it looks very nice. Hopefully, we’ll have a great weekend again and we hope to have a fantastic fight once again."
