Lopez dominates WTCC test at the Nordschleife

Reigning champion Jose Maria Lopez led the way in the official WTCC test at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, leading a Citroen 1-2-3 the legendary German circuit.

Having comfortably set the pace in the morning, Lopez continued to dominate the timesheets in the afternoon with a best time of 8m38.027s around the gruelling 25-kilometre circuit.

That put the Argentine close to 2.5 seconds faster than teammate Sebastien Loeb in second place, while Ma Qing Hua went third fastest, 3.4 seconds shy of Lopez.

Gabriele Tarquini was best of the non-Citroen drivers in fourth position for Honda, 4.7 seconds slower than Lopez, while Yvan Muller made it four factory C-Elysees in the top five.

Hugo Valente was the fastest Chevrolet driver in sixth position ahead of Tom Chilton's Chevrolet and Tiago Monteiro's Honda, with James Thompson ending up as the top Lada driver in ninth position, over 11 seconds off the pace, and John Filippi's Chevrolet completing a spread out top 10.

Sabine Schmitz, who will make a one-off appearance at Nordschleife in a Munnich Motorsport-run Chevrolet, set the 13th quickest time in her first run in WTCC machinery.
