Lada driver Nicolas Lapierre has been excluded from the results of the first WTCC race at Shanghai for a technical infringement.
The French driver, competing in only his second ever weekend in the WTCC, survived a chaotic race to finish seventh, scoring valuable points for the team.
But post-race technical scrutineering checks found that the turbo in his Lada Vesta’s engine exceeded the 2.5 bar limit, with the stewards excluding the French driver from the final results.
The decision promotes Tiago Monteiro, Hugo Valente, Stefano D’Aste and Ma Qing Hua, who each go up a position in the final classification, with Citroen’s Chinese driver now scoring the final point.
