FABRIZIO GIOVANARDI WITH JAS IN THE WTCC!
Fabrizio Giovanardi, three times European Super Touring Car Champion will take the wheel of the Honda Accord Euro R FIA Super 2000 in the brazilian round of the Touring Car World Championship in Curitiba (July, 1-2), joining Ryan Sharp in the team.
The 40 years old italian, a real Touring Car 'star' who has been Alfa Romeo works driver for a decade, will replace Pierre Yves Corthals, the Belgian who drove the Accord in the first 4 rounds of the WTCC.
"It was planned" says Alessandro Mariani, Team Manager "that Pierre Yves might not drive in the overseas rounds, he will rejoin us in Brno and drive in the second part of the season. Although Fabrizio will not have the chance to test the car prior to the event in Curitiba, I am confident that his skills and broad experience will take the the car in the front part of the grid".
Giovanardi is actually works driver for Vauxhall in the BTCC, but as the Brazilian round is not clashing with the British Championship he could accept the proposal of JAS. "I am really delighted" he commented "it's a fantastic opportunity to be back again in the WTCC. The Accord and JAS are certainly competitive, and I look forward to fight against my old colligues".
It has not been decided yet who will drive the Accord in Puebla, as the Mexican round will be clashing with the BTCC. "We have time to decide for Puebla" confirms Mariani "we have a few options in progress, and we do wish to repeat the performance of last year, when Colciago claimed the pole position".
From the Curitiba event onwards, BRANDART (Italian company, leader in luxury packaging) have renewed the partnership with JAS Motorsport, and will therefore appear on the livery of the race car.
