DE MICHELI TAKES INDIPENDENTS' POLE
The 8 round of the FIA WTCC took place in Istanbul and saw Adriano "Ado" De Micheli from Scuderia Niosi (USA) as the protagonist of the qualifying session at the Turkish circuit.
The Italian driver at the wheel of his Honda Accord FIA Super 2000 claimed the pole position of the Indipendents Driver when only 2 minutes were left in the qualifying session, overtaking Carl Rosemblad and his BMW by almost 7/10".
On the 5,3 km turkish track, Adriano took the 11 position overall on the starting grid by setting the stop watch at 2:05.644, 1.119 seconds from poleman Gabriele Tarquini.
"I have to say that we were quite expecting this pole position in the Indipendents Trophy, because after the last races in Oschersleben we realised that we can be easily at the top, as our car is really good" Ado commented. "Obviously we are happy to be so high up in the time sheet, and we are eager to fight with some of the works cars".
Unfortunately Adriano's ambitions were not fulfilled the day after, when he could not claim anything more than a disappointing 15th and 16th place.
"I am very disappointed" Ado goes on "I had a cautious start in both races, which eventually made me lose so many positions after a few corners. At that point the race was finished, as in Istanbul the overtaking was quite critical, because the track is still quite dusty off the best driving line. It's a real pity, because we proved in qualifying that we were extremely competitive".
