Rydell high at Estoril
The five SEAT Sport drivers have qualified among the top ten at the qualifying practice staged this afternoon on the Portuguese track of Estoril. Rickard Rydell took his SEAT Leon TDI to the front row of the starting grid, whilst team-mate Jordi Gene will be taking the start right behind him from the second row. Gabriele Tarquini, Yvan Muller and Tiago Monteiro qualified from seventh to ninth respectively.
From the start of the session, the SEAT Sport drivers have been fighting for the top positions, doing teamwork and helping each other with slipstreams in order to make the best use of the long straight of the Portuguese racetrack. Gene lead most of the session, while Tarquini showed an excellent performance setting the second fastest time.
As participants started their last tries, the Chevrolet drivers managed to take the lead. But SEAT Sport's reply came with Rydell and Gene, who placed themselves in between them, thus securing good starting positions for tomorrow's first race, which will be as usual with a rolling start. Tarquini, Muller and Monteiro expect to score points and get a good position for the second race, profiting from the reverse start order of the eight top drivers for the second race.
Rickard Rydell (SEAT Leon TDI no. 10), 2nd: "This is my best qualifying result of the season and I'm not only happy for the result but for the work done during the free practices. I want to thank Jordi for his help in the decisive moments of the qualifying session and the team for the huge effort made, allowing me to improve the performance of the car. I'm very confident in achieving a good result tomorrow".
