Darryl O’Young believes he has an advantage at Shanghai

DARRYL ON SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT: TECHNICAL & TRICKY

(1 November 2012, Hong Kong) Hong Kong race driver Darryl O’Young is fully geared up ahead of this weekend’s World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Race of China in Shanghai. The Bamboo Engineering driver is definitely eager to make the most of his familiarity with the Shanghai International Circuit to strive for results.

O’Young was interviewed by the official WTCC television last week, inviting him to elaborate on the circuit, of which the 32-year-old described as both technical and tricky.

“Following the start, we entered Turn 1 with the 4th gear, that’s very quick, and then we go into a 2nd gear corner, so it’s very difficult with a lot of breaking, it will be a tough task for the front row drivers. Onto Turn 12, which is exactly an opposite of Turn 1, we go in with the 2nd gear and exit with the 5th, it’s then linked to a one kilometer straight, we can expect a lot of actions there, and the heavy breaking area at the end of the straight is a great spot for overtaking too,” said the top Chinese race driver.

The Shanghai International Circuit was inaugurated in 2004, and has been home to the Formula One Grand Prix of China since. However, the WTCC will use a shorter layout compared to F1, which is approximately 850 meters shorter, and racers will compete on this modified 4.6 kilometers track for two rounds of 13 laps each.
