Sébastien Loeb captured nine World Rally Championship titles and became a hero in López’s native Argentina.
José María López, who won the FIA World Touring Car Championship in 2014 on the back of 10 race victories, has revealed the respect he held for Sébastien Loeb when they linked up for the first time in pre-season testing with Citroën Racing last year.
...to be honest in the beginning I wanted to make a picture with him all the time!

Loeb captured nine World Rally Championship titles and became a hero in López’s native Argentina by winning the country’s WRC round on a record eight occasions. And López was also a firm fan of the legendary Frenchman, now a fellow WTCC racer and team-mate.
“Sometimes it sounds stupid but I arrived on the first day of the Valencia test and I saw Sébastien coming,” explained López. “I’m from Córdoba so I lived rally for many years, I used to go two days before the stages with a tent, with my friend, making a barbecue, waiting for the cars to come. To have him next to me… to be honest in the beginning I wanted to make a picture with him all the time! But at the same time I was saying ‘no I have to keep cool, we are working’.”
Along with Yvan Muller, López and Loeb will spearhead Citroën’s WTCC bid in 2015.
