BMW drivers Turkington and Farfus start from the second row.
Brno, 31st July 2010. BMW private driver Colin Turkington (GB) and BMW Team RBM's Augusto Farfus (BR) locked out the second row of the grid in qualifying for the 13th round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Brno (CZ). Turkington set his fastest lap time of 2:11.205 minutes in "Q2" at the wheel of his Team ebay Motors BMW 320si WTCC, which earned him third. With a gap of 0.055 seconds to the reigning British Touring Car Champion, Farfus claimed fourth on the grid. Chevrolet's Robert Huff (GB) secured pole position.
Farfus' team-mate, Andy Priaulx (GB), experienced a disappointing qualifying session: The triple World Champion couldn't improve his lap time on his final attempt in "Q1" and had to make do with 11th on the grid, missing out on the second session. The 13th round of the season will get underway at 12:05hrs on Sunday. The second race will start at 13:20hrs.
Bart Mampaey (Team Principal):
"We have mixed feelings when looking at today's qualifying results. While Augusto managed to extract the maximum out of our car, Andy narrowly missed out on advancing into the second qualifying session. He made a mistake in the last sector of his last flying lap, which cost him too much time. That's a pity really. We need to work hard now, in order to achieve a strong result on Sunday and be in with a chance of securing BMW's 50th win in WTCC."
Augusto Farfus (Car Number 10):
Qualifying 1: 6th, 2:11.111 min -- Qualifying 2: 4th, 2:11.260 min -- Weight: 1,198 kg
"Overall I'm quite happy with my qualifying session, as I succeeded in getting the most out of my BMW 320si WTCC. That's where we stand at the moment. It's obvious we are still lacking performance to battle for pole position. However, we should be in a position to see a podium result on Sunday. To be involved in the title fight some improvements are needed."
Andy Priaulx (Car Number 11):
Qualifying 1: 11th, 2:11.761 min -- Weight: 1,198 kg
"Naturally I'm more than disappointed with the course of this qualifying. Due to a mistake on my second set of tyres I failed to proceed to Q2. It's obvious this isn't what I had set myself as a goal for today. Now we need to focus on gaining as much ground as possible in race one, and to score some good points this weekend. I have managed to do this quite a few times this season."
Colin Turkington (Car Number 29):
Qualifying 1: 7th, 2:11.179 min -- Qualifying 2: 3rd, 2:11.205 min -- Weight: 1,133 kg
"Third is a great starting position for the first race tomorrow. We managed to raise our game from one session to the next, although this is the first time I'm racing in Brno. I found my rhythm quickly. Now I'm really looking forward to Sunday."
