Two points finishes for Tiago Monteiro

SEAT Sport driver plays team game at Brands Hatch

Tiago Monteiro has left the Brands Hatch Circuit with the satisfaction of accomplishment, the SEAT Leon no.5 driver adding two more points finishes to his tally (7th and 8th), making a total of eight consecutive finishes in the top eight, the only driver in the FIA World Touring Car Championship to have done so.

The Portuguese driver also added excellent team strategy to his performance. 7th in the first race, Tiago started from the first row in race two at the Brands Hatch Circuit in the UK where he fought against several rivals in order to play the team game and finally offer 7th place to his teammate Yvan Muller, who is at the head championship.

Tiago believes that it would have been difficult to do any better with a ballast of 40kg on this undulating circuit... "Both races were doubtful and we knew it would be difficult to obtain a good result. Team strategy was essential and on a personal level I'm very satisfied to have secured points for the fourth weekend in a row," Tiago explains, "In spite of several obstacles in our way, I was engaged in several tight battles which are always good for an adrenalin rush!"

One of the most beautiful battles he was involved with was with Nicola Larini, in the final kilometres of the first race where the SEAT Sport driver made a strong overtaking manoeuvre in order to secure two points and seventh place despite starting in eighth place. But, for the start of the second race, Tiago knew that he would not be able to fight on an equal footing. "Starting alongside the BMW, which are propulsion cars whereas the SEAT Leon is a traction one, I knew it would be impossible to lead the way in the first turn and that's why I paid full attention to the attacks coming from behind. Then my strategy was to save my tyres and when Yvan Muller was up in 8th position I let him through just like I let Gabriele Tarquini overtake me earlier. Rickard Rydell also let Gabriele past him because Yvan he is the SEAT Sport driver who is in the best position in the championship. It is normal to use team strategy and it does not at any way affect my satisfaction. Four SEAT Sport drivers secured points which are crucial for the manufacturers' championship" Tiago underlines.

With three points more in his pocket, Tiago moves up to 8th place in the general classification. The World Touring Car Championship will now take a seven week break and will resume action once again on the 6th of September on the Oschersleben circuit in Germany.
