SEAT Sport shines in the rain at Brands Hatch

Round 5 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship will have an all-SEAT front row, after Rickard Rydell and Peter Terting ended today's qualifying session in 1st and 2nd places. The day began dry and sunny, but heavy rain showers soaked the Brands Hatch circuit throughout the morning and early afternoon and the qualifying session began with pools of standing water around the track. No further rain during the 30-minute session meant that the track steadily dried out and the final few, thrilling, minutes saw pole position change hands every few seconds. At the chequered flag, it was the SEAT Sport Leon of Rydell that topped the timesheets, with Terting's car just 0.132 seconds adrift.

In all, there will be six SEAT cars in the top 8 places, with Yvan Muller in 4th position, James Thompson in 6th, Gabriele Tarquini 8th and Tom Coronel, quickest of the Yokohama Independent Trophy competitors, in 7th place in his brand new Leon. Following the session, Muller revealed that an early decision to swap tyres had probably cost him the chance to start the race from pole, while James Thompson's engineers were investigating a mystery electrical fault that caused his car to cut out.
