Podium for Porteiro and penalty suspended for Zanardi at Brands Hatch
Felix Porteiro gets again on the WTCC podium after the victory scored at Brno last June. The Spaniard concluded Brands Hatch race two in second position and race one in ninth.
Alessandro Zanardi, penalized by a ten places drop-back on the starting grid due to Oschersleben events, concluded race one in fifteenth position. His race two finished at the first turn instead due to a bumping by Roberto Colciago. Zanardi, faultless, spun and went off track and this left him no chance to get back on track again.
Nevertheless, the British weekend has had a positive outcome for the Italian driver: the FIA, examined all elements emerged after the penalty imposed at Oschersleben and decided to suspend it. Accordingly, Zanardi will be able to take part to the next WTCC round of Monza on the 7th of October without any penalizations at all.
Roberto Ravaglia (Team Manager): "Porteiro, while holding the nineth position in race one, decided not to push anymore well knowing that, having a car out of the classification in front of him, the result would have granted him the race two pole position. The second place is a very good result for him, being at his debut season, as well as for the team.
Zanardi paid a lot of attention in not being involved in any dangerous situations and, despite getting away from the rear of the grid, he managed to get back into the fifteenth position. In race two he did not have the same opportunity.
I am really satisfied for the suspension of the sanction on him. It was an extremely heavy measure that was penalizing a guiltless driver. Let's face now the work in preparation of Monza with even more determination, decided to cut a fine figure in front of our fans".
