Turkington fastest BMW driver in Brands Hatch -- Difficult qualifying for BMW Team RBM.
Brands Hatch, 17th July 2010. Local hero Andy Priaulx (GB) finished sixth in qualifying for round 11 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Brands Hatch (GB). The BMW Team RBM driver set a personal best time of 1:32.973 minutes. However, due to an unscheduled engine change, Priaulx will receive a ten place grid penalty for Sunday's first race.
His team-mate, Augusto Farfus (BR), clocked the tenth-fastest lap time at the 3.703-kilometre "Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit". Best-placed BMW driver of the day was Colin Turkington (GB). The reigning British Touring Car Champion qualified fourth. Chevrolet's Yvan Muller (FR) posted the best time of 1:32.481 minutes, giving him pole position for race one.
The 11th round of the season will get underway at 12:05hrs on Sunday. The second race will start at 14:20hrs.
Bart Mampaey (Team Principal):
"Considering we are running with maximum ballast of 40 kilograms here in Brands Hatch, Andy's performance was good. Of course it's a bit disappointing that Augusto couldn't do a similar lap time. On his final run in Q2 he didn't find enough grip with the new tyres. We need to investigate what happened to the tyres. I'm sure Andy will deliver a storming drive tomorrow from 16th."
Augusto Farfus (Car Number 10):
Qualifying 1: 9th, 1:33.448 min -- Qualifying 2: 10th, 1:33.337 min "In the first session, the balance of my car was very good. I managed to save a set of tyres. We went out on used tyres for our first run in Q2, which worked fine. But then, on the final assault on new tyres, the car got completely out of balance. Something was definitely wrong as I just couldn't get the tyres to work. However, a strong result in tomorrow's races is still possible."
Andy Priaulx (Car Number 11):
Qualifying 1: 5th, 1:33.239 min -- Qualifying 2: 6th, 1:32.973 min "I am very happy with sixth. In the first run in Q1 I didn't feel comfortable with the car, but we just made it better and better during qualifying. The last run on the new tyres was good, but I don't think there was much more to find as it was really hard. Unfortunately P6 is now P16 for the race. It will be two tough races tomorrow."
