2005 Supersport World Championship
Friday qualifying, 22nd April
Circuit: 4.005 kms. Weather: dry, mostly sunny, 24 C.
TOP SEVEN FOR FORES
Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Javier Fores ended the first day of Valencia qualifying with a lap of 1:40.220 - the seventh quickest time of the day. Problems with suspension and then grip in the afternoon prevented Javier taking a place on the front row of the grid, but if these problems can be resolved then the young Spaniard may well give his fans something to shout about come raceday. The usual suspects dominated the opening day, with Frenchman Sebastien Charpentier (Honda) again topping the lists. His time of 1:38.351 was almost half a second faster then his nearest rival - team mate Katsuaki Fujiwara. Third was Fabien Foret (Honda), ahead of Victor Carrasco (Yamaha), Kevin Curtain (Yamaha) and Michel Fabrizio (Honda).
JAVIER FORES 7TH, 1:40.220
I am a little disappointed not to be on the provisional front row of the grid, but when I look how close the times are, I know I could be much worse off. At the moment, by bike is not complete. The front end feels good and so does the engine, but the rear suspension needs some more work. Once that is done, I will have more confidence to push much harder. I 'll see if I can get a better suspension for tomorrow and improve my position. I really want to do well here in front of my home fans.
