Jonathan Rea and Sylvain Guintoli topped the two sessions of World SBK’s second testing day at Phillip Island.
The Northern Irishman recorded the benchmark time of the two-hour long morning session after just 20 minutes, outpacing Ducati’s Davide Giugliano by 0.151s.
The session was red-flagged twice due to crashes from rookie Markus Reiterberger and Jordi Torres, the latter injuring his left elbow but returning for the second session.
However, the running was brought to a premature end after an even bigger incident from another newcomer, Fabio Menghi, who was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with a fractured left acetabular.
Honda duo Michael van der Mark and Nicky Hayden were third and fifth respectively, sandwiching Guintoli.
Tom Sykes narrowly edged out fellow Chaz Davies and Alex Lowes for sixth, while the top 10 was completed by Xavi Fores and Torres.
Although times did not get near to those of the morning session, Guintoli edged ahead of Rea in the morning session, setting his time of 1m31.940s minutes before crashing out.
Rea completed a strong day in second, going two tenths quicker than his teammate Sykes, who was outpaced by Lowes as well.
Reiterberger recovered from his morning crash to end up fifth fastest, followed by Van der Mark and Torres.
Fores took eighth ahead of Welsh Davies and fellow Spaniard Roman Ramos.
