Lanzi (Ducati Breil) back on home Territory at Misano
Misano Adriatico (Italy), 15 April 2004: Italian Lorenzo Lanzi (Ducati Breil) will be counting on massive home support as he lines up for the San Marino Round of the World Supersport Championship taking place this weekend at the Santamonica circuit.
After an encouraging fourth in the Valencia opener, Lanzi could only scrape a ninth place in Australia but he feels sure he can again figure in the top 6 at one of his favourite circuits.
"Even though I haven't raced here since winning in Superstock last year, I'm sure we can get a good result at one of my favourite circuits" declared Lanzi. "The Curvone leading onto the long straight is a crucial part of the track, you've got to get the bike set-up well for that. Even though we might be struggling a bit in the twisty section, the 749R has got a good top speed so we hope to be up there again this weekend.
"I've already won six races here, including four in the Italian championship and last year's European Superstock race, so although we haven't got any reference data for the 749R as we haven't tested here, it's a circuit I know really well. I had a bit of bad luck in Australia but I still managed to come away in fourth place and I'll be looking to consolidate that position this weekend."
22-year-old Lanzi, who was born just down the road at San Piero in Bagno, will find an army of fans behind him around the 4.060 km Misano circuit as he attempts to improve on his fourth place in the championship standings. "It's going to be great racing on Sunday, I will have 200 of my fans from San Piero in Bagno cheering me on and they'll probably make a banner or wear T-shirts around the circuit for me!" he concluded.
