Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) blasts to his first pole position of the season, setting fastest time in Saturday's afternoon Superpole qualifying at the sun-kissed Monza circuit in Italy. Bayliss wins a pulsating Superpole as top six riders are split by just 0.3 seconds. Vittoriano Guareschi (Dienza Ducati Racing - Michelin Pilot) gives Michelin a Monza double with pole position for round four of World Supersport.

Superbike Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) took pole position for Sunday's fifth round of the World Superbike championship at Monza in Italy with a scintillating lap in the Saturday afternoon Superpole final qualifying to send the patriotic Ducati fans wild.

Bayliss will start from the head of the grid in Sunday's two 18-lap races ahead of Ducati privateer Neil Hodgson with Akira Yanagawa third and American Ducati rider Ben Bostrom fourth.

Colin Edwards (Castrol Honda - Michelin) leads the second row of the grid in fifth place but the 27- year-old Texan was far from happy with his Superpole lap after setting the best time through the first two splits on his lap then losing any chance of pole position with a bad run through the final, Ascari chicane.

Championship leader Troy Corser is in sixth with Aprilia wild card rider Alessandro Antonello seventh. Ruben Xaus (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) - watched over by four times World Superbike champion Carl Fogarty at Monza - completes the second row of the grid in eighth.

Vittoriano Guareschi (Dienza Ducati Racing - Michelin Pilot) powered to a dramatic pole position for round four of the World Supersport championship at Monza.

Guareschi made a late charge to grab the pole position with the chequered flag already out to signal the end of the one-hour session. Honda pair Pere Riba and Fabien Foret are second and third respectively with Yamaha's James Whitham completing the front row for the 16-lap race.
