Imola WSBK: Davies sweeps weekend with dominant win

Chaz Davies sealed his second World Superbike double victory in three rounds by taking another dominating win at Imola in Race 2.

Starting from pole, Welshman Davies was leading by six tenths already after the opening lap and the gap was stretched to almost four seconds during the first half of the race.

Jonathan Rea was unable to keep up with the Ducat rider, and spent the early stages holding off the closely following Tom Sykes instead.

The championship leader started to match the pace of Davies, but twice he lost several seconds and was forced to settle for second, just ahead of teammate Sykes.

Similarly to Race 1, Davide Giugliano found himself behind the Kawasakis as well as Lorenzo Savadori's Aprilia after the start.

He overtook Savadori to salvage fourth, but was more than 13 seconds adrift Davies as he took the chequered flag.

Soon after losing fourth, local rookie Savadori lost several other places and was set to take eighth, only to drop back to 11th on the final lap.

British duo Leon Camier (MV Agusta) and Alex Lowes (Yamaha) took fifth and sixth respectively, the latter gaining six places after the start.

Althea BMW's Jordi Torres and Barni Ducati rider Xavi Fores took seventh and 10th respectively, sandwiching the struggling Hondas in the order of Nicky Hayden and Michael van der Mark.
