Petter Solberg press release
Australia is the venue for round ten of the World Rally Championship and the Petter Solberg World Rally Team is already there, in the rally’s new home of Coffs Harbour in the state of New South Wales. Rally HQ is at the Opal Cove Resort, eight kms away from the service park, which is based at Coffs Harbour airport. Having moved 300kms along the East Coast since it’s last outing in Australia in 2009, this twenty six stage event takes place over shire and forestry all-gravel roads, a mix of fast flowing areas and tight and twisty sections, all new to all crews. The weather is expected to be warm and dry for the event and with loose stones and a dusty surface, road cleaning could be a problem.
The rally starts on Thursday evening with a 3.77kms tarmac super special stage in the Jetty precinct of Coffs Harbour and this will be run again on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Friday’s stages are based around Coffs Harbour with three stages in the morning repeated after service in the afternoon, followed by two runs of the super special. On Saturday the rally heads south with a similar format of the morning stages repeated in the afternoon plus the super special. On Sunday the stages are north of the town, ending with the 4.58 kms Clarence Power Stage, which will be broadcast live on TV and offers additional Championship points for the fastest three drivers.
- It will be fun to do a rally in Australia again, says Petter Solberg. – I missed out on this rally in 2009. It’s a brand new venue for it in Coffs Harbour, but normally new events turn out good for us, so I’m looking forward to it.
