The Brazilian driver arrives with renew hopes to compete in Spain

The Brazil World Rally Team driver Daniel Oliveira is ready to get on the Spanish Tarmac roads, he is set to tackle next weekend’s RACC Rally de España, 11th round of the FIA World Rally Championship and the last sealed surface showdown this year.

The Brazilian driver will try to capitalize this back-to-back running on asphalt after Rallye de France two weeks ago, where he was able to run more kilometres on board his MINI John Cooper Works WRC.

But while the French round had barely 5.41% gravel , on Spain Daniel will have a slight approach to the tarmac since the first day of action will feature a mixed surface itinerary.

Furthermore, the opening stage is a 100% gravel speed test, the surface that favours Oliveira the most, while the two remaining sections will introduce some kilometres of asphalt to be run on gravel set-up and tyres.

In some way, this will help Daniel to get a good grip on the car’s handling before getting in a full tarmac trimed MINI for Saturday and Sunday stages, when the action moves to the flowing and hard compact roads that made this event famous.

Daniel Oliveira will be contesting this round with a new co-driver, the Argentinian Fernando Mussano who will join him replacing Carlos Magalhaes, who is still recovering from two injured ribs.

Daniel’s words. “I’m really looking forward to this round since we were forced to drop out of the race in France , just when we were feeling more comfortable with the MINI on tarmac. However, I think it will be better to start the Rally on gravel, although the changes of surfaces could turn out to be a bit tricky. Also, I will have to work with a new co-driver and although I raced alongside Fernando in Argentina, I think it could take us some stages to build up the pace”.

All happens in Costa Dourada. The base of the event will be in Salou, located 95 kilometres south west of Barcelona . The 18 special stages scheduled are to be run in the surrounding areas.

Schedule. The pre-race activities will start with the recce during next Tuesday and Wednesday. The Shakedown will take place on Thursday morning and will be followed by the Ceremonial Start.

Facts and figures. The 47th RallyRACC will host rounds of both the Super 2000 and Production Car world championships as well as the main WRC. 62 drivers will enter the event. The most recent winner was Sebastien Loeb (Citroen) in 2010 Loeb arrives leading the standings alongside with Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) both with 196 points whereas Sebastien Ogier (Citroen) is just three units behind.
