Wales WRC: Ogier reinstated as leader, Paddon and Prokop collide

Sebastien Ogier is back into the lead of Rally GB after having had his SS11 time adjusted by the half a minute that he lost behind Thierry Neuville’s rolled car.

The Belgian crashed out 9.1km into the Aberhirnant stage and Ogier was held up as a result.

“He was blocking the road so we had to stop for some time. The co-driver told us to stop completely. They managed to move the car and we carried on,” explained Ogier.

After the stage, Ogier, who had provisionally lost the lead to Kris Meeke, paid a visit to the officials, who studied his onboard footage and took 31s off his time as a result.

The three-time world champion is now leading by 30.5s and 57.1s from Kris Meeke and Andreas Mikkelsen respectively, while fourth-placed Ott Tanak is more than two minutes behind, albeit having topped the short SS13 Chirk Castle.

The second day of Rally GB had already seen three retirements in Jari-Matti Latvala, Kevin Abbring and Thierry Neuville - and Martin Prokop joined the list at the end of SS12 after he made head-on contact with Kevin Abbring’s car during the road section.

The duo went the wrong way after completing the stage and collided at a hairpin when Paddon had already turned back.

Prokop, whose car was already suffering from a broken anti-roll bar, was unable to continue after the incident but the Kiwi carried on and avoided losing much ground through SS13.
