Ogier fastest at Wales Rally GB shakedown

Citroen ace Sebastien Ogier was the fastest driver at the Wales Rally GB shakedown test held on Wednesday evening in host city Cardiff.

The three hour test - a prelude to this weekend's rally - took place a day earlier and at a different location than originally scheduled after a tree disease in Margam Forest forced organisers to abandon Thursday's planned stage at Margam Park.

Instead the test took place on the 1.7km asphalt Superspecial constructed on the Barrage in Cardiff Bay, a stone's throw from the Service Park. Weather conditions were dry and chilly as the night time session got underway at 1900hrs in a temperature of just three degrees Celsius.

Ogier, driving a C4 WRC in Wales for the factory Citroen team, completed four passes through the stage, setting his best time of 1m 13.7s on his final run. His team-mate, seven-time world champion Sebastien Loeb was his closest rival, in a time six-tenths slower. Dani Sordo, also driving a C4 WRC, was seven-tenths slower than Loeb to round off the top three times.

Wales Rally Great Britain gets underway back at the Cardiff Bay Superspecial on Thursday 11 November, just after the start at 1930hrs. The rally takes in 20 stages and 359.44 competitive kilometres in total before the finish back in Cardiff on Sunday 14 November at 1453hrs.
