Dani Sordo wants to confirm the Spanish result...
Second in Catalunya after he won his very first stage on a World event, 22 years old Dani has entered in the Spanish rally history and is now the fourth Iberian driver to achieve a podium finish ever. In Corsica, he wants to try to confirm this result...
First stage win, first podium on a World event, third in the Drivers championship... Was there a big party at home in Puente San Miguel?
"Not a party but I must admit that the media have reported our result everywhere. All the radios, all the newspapers and magazines have talked about our second place in Catalunya. We also did quite a lot of interviews with the Spanish TV channels. It's incredible because everybody congratulate me. Maybe a bit more in my village than before. Otherwise, on Tuesday I went to Madrid for a press conference with `Grupo Lábaro' which is one of my sponsors. I have a very good relationship with the boss of this company dealing with buildings. I have answered to a great number of journalists and I know I will have to call some more in the coming days. But I cannot complain, it's fantastic."
After only four rallies behind the wheel of a Xsara WRC and such a quick rise, don't you think the most difficult part starts now at a moment when everybody expects you to confirm the Spanish result?
"Maybe it adds a bit of pressure but for me finishing second behind Sébastien is the top. I know I cannot beat him or a guy like Marcus either. They are excellent and also have the experience. This second place is like a dream for me because I would have never imagined to achieve it so quickly. I know I still have a lot to learn. I'm learning every day but another hand I don't know how but it also feels natural and normal in a way."
You participated twice in the Corsican event both with second positions at the end, one in group N and the second one in JWRC. What is your target for this edition?
"Yes I remember that in 2004 Xevi [Pons] and I were fighting in the group N. But he had a bit more experience than me as he was doing the whole `Production' championship. That year I only competed in three or four races. Last season Marc and I had a good event in Corsica where we were the fastest `Juniors' in seven stages out of the twelve possible. I really like Corsica, maybe even more than Catalunya. It's a bit slower and the weather plays an important role as it's really changeable. It's also difficult to make the good tyre choice but I know we can rely on the team's experience and on BFGoodrich expertise to help us. For now, we'll see. People will be looking at us but in any case I will try to do the best I can and get more experience."
