Škoda Motorsport World Rally Team driver Alex Bengue equalled the best ever finish for the Škoda Fabia WRC 05 and set a career best result when he finished a challenging sixth place in Corsica.
Jan Kopecký was 12th on his first visit to the twisting asphalt roads of the Mediterranean island while Armin Schwarz withdrew from the rally after yesterday's opening stage.
Alex used Michelin's softer compound tyres to ease clear of Xavi Pons after setting fourth fastest time on both of today's morning stages and put him into a shoot-out for fifth position with the Ford of Roman Kresta. Alex cut 23 seconds from Kresta's advantage but missed out on the place by just 6.3 seconds.
Jan suffered with broken mousse in his tyres which left him unable to hold off the private Škoda Fabia WRC 05 of French Federation driver Nicolas Vouilloz who confirmed the pace of the Fabia despite the car arriving on the island after the ceremonial start, leaving the 29-year old no practice time at all.
The World Rally Championship makes a short journey to mainland Europe for the Catalunya-Costa Daurada Rally (October 28-30) where the Škoda Motorsport World Rally Team will again be represented by Armin Schwarz, Alex Bengue and Jan Kopecký.
Alex Bengue: "This was a fantastic result for me and for the team. I'm really pleased with how the car performed and how we were able to fight with Xavi and Roman today. I'm very happy to have given the team its best result of the season on such a difficult rally."
Jan Kopecký: "I came here to learn and to make the finish so I am happy to have achieved both those things and am now looking forward to Catalunya."
Martin Muehlmeier (Head of Škoda Motorsport): "This is a really good result for Alex and the team. He drove superbly and pushed very hard to try and get an even better result. The Fabia really showed its speed here with three top four times today and so this was a very important rally for us."
