Martin Prokop: In Mexico we will race on hell stages
Martin Prokop and his co-driver Jan Tomanek are ready for challenging Rally Mexico. After the recce the Czech Ford National Team's crew is aware of Mexican treacherous stages.
Martin Prokop and Jan Tomanek are heading to start of the second WRC event with new Ford Fiesta S2000. After the opening round in winter forests of Sweden they will race now on treacherous gravel stages in Mexican mountains. Although Czech Ford National Team completed the recce and shakedown without any major problems, on Friday will start the second WRC 2010 round with respect.
Martin Prokop: "Recce and shakedown shown to us, how difficult will be Rally Mexico this year. I have to say, that after the recce I am not optimally tuned and tomorrow a will start the rally with great respect. I feel, that the rally will bring a lot of troubles to all of us. Many training cars leave the service already during the recce."
"We need to rethink our strategy and adapting it to the circumstances. At least in the beginning of the rally we will not want to play first fiddle at all hazards. The roads are very treacherous with many dangerous places. The smallest problem is the fact that there are no classical ditches, but relatively deep trenches. If you fall there you can get the car back on the road only by crane. In many places there are no ditches or trenches, but small ravines along the relatively narrow and twisty roads. Moreover there are many illogically placed bridges here, which you do not expect, but once they surprise you, you can break out the wheel there."
"Particularly difficult will be the last leg. It is absolutely unpossible to guess what happens on Sunday. I was pretty tired already after the recce. That are really hell stages, I have to say the most demanding stages I have ever seen in World Rally Championship."
"We will also have to be careful in fords. It was raining in the region, so where are usually the small creeks, are now rivers. Ford has not yet developed flap to the filter, so when you pass the ford roughly, you can easily drown the car. Our car stopped in one ford on shakedown and it took a while than the engine started again. Therefore in fords we will go really slowly a we will trust, that the water will not come where it shouldn't come."
"It is clear that we are in for first really difficult rally with Ford Fiesta S2000. Of course we want to succeed, but the first step is to finish the rally. Only then we can gain important points."
