Subaru duo claim Inmarsat Star of Rally award
Rally Italia Sardinia saw nothing if not commitment from the Subaru World Rally Team's Petter Solberg and Phil Mills who today claimed the Inmarsat Star of the Rally in addition to the well-earned top podium position. The Inmarsat Star was awarded to the 2003 world champions for both the commitment and team spirit it took to win their third consecutive world rally in order to keep their championship hopes alive.
Nicky Grist, former co-driver and head of the panel of judges said: "Petter and Phil have shown outstanding commitment on this exceptionally difficult rally and have now won three WRC events on the trot. Add to that the courage they demonstrated by winning in Japan, fresh from a huge crash in Germany, and it was simply not possible to find better recipients for the Inmarsat Star. They could not be doing more than they are doing to keep their championship hopes alive."
In true team spirit, the delighted Petter Solberg and Phil Mills handed the award straight to Senior Tyre Engineer and local Sardinian Terenzio Testoni for his outstanding contribution to the pairing's success on this new tough event.
A delighted Petter Solberg commented: "I'm really pleased to be given this award. It means a lot but we'd like to pass it on as Star of the Rally has definitely been Pirelli and, in particular, Terenzio Testoni. We couldn't have won this event without him."
With three rallies to go (France, Spain and Australia), Petter Solberg and Phil Mills have 74 championship points, 26 short of championship leader Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena of Citroen who have 100 points.
Judged by a panel of FIA WRC experts led by Nicky Grist, the Inmarsat Star of the Rally is announced on the final day of each WRC event and rewards an individual or group who truly shines. The award picks out an individual or group who exudes one of the following criteria: Team Spirit, Resilience, Courage, Skill, Inspiration, and Commitment.
