Going Steady for MacHale and Nagle in Portugal

Irish competitors Gareth MacHale and Paul Nagle are sitting in 16th place overall on the Vodafone Rally of Portugal at the end of the competition's first leg.

Speaking from Portugal, Paul Nagle said: "The going on the stages today was fairly rough in places and indeed had been slippery in the early part of the day. We're a little off the pace we'd like to be setting, but we know from the other competitors that everyone is having the same issues with the terrain, so we're not too concerned just yet."

Gareth MacHale said that the objective for the second leg of the event tomorrow was to keep the going steady and stay out of trouble on what would be a long day of competition. The event concludes on Sunday afternoon.

At the end of the first leg, reigning World Champion Sebastian Loeb is leading the pack just 3.1 seconds ahead of Marcus Grohnholm. Mikko Hirvonnen is in third place with Petter Soldberg and Danni Sordo fourth and fifth.
