Top results for OMV Peugeot Norway WRT at shakedown
*Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerud reach second-best time at shakedown
*Manfred Stohl/Ilka Minor complete the course in fourth place
The OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team has every reason to be confident for the "Propecia Rally New Zealand 2006". The more so considering the results of the shakedown. There both Henning Solberg (Nor) and Manfred Stohl (Aut) proved that they are serious contenders for a podium place.
Solberg only misses 0,4 seconds
Henning Solberg has definitely gotten over the drop-out at the Rally Australia. In any case, the Norwegian OMV driver has lost none of his speed. The 33-year-old WRC-seventh reached second-best time at the shakedown of the Rally New Zealand. And he was only 0,4 seconds behind the best time by Finnish Ford works driver Mikko Hirvonen. Solberg: "It is a lot of fun. I think that we have found the right set-up for this rally. The shakedown was an important indicator as to that. As well as for the self- confidence - which fits."
Stohl is not afraid of rain
Manfred Stohl felt quite at home on the 3,06 kilometres long shakedown on Thursday, as well. The thrid of the Rally Australia only needed 0,7 seconds more than Hirvonen and finished fourth in a tie with Marcus Grönholm (Fin/Ford Focus WRC). It was a very important test for Stohl/Minor since the course was partly completed on wet surface. Stohl: "Here we are not bothered that much by the rain which is predicted for the next three days, for the surface has a lot of grip. It will be decisive that we'll be among the top right from kilometre one on. And we saw that we are able to accomplish that during the shakedown."
