Supermag Rally Italia Sardinia is starting tomorrow
Olbia, April 29th 2005 - Starting tomorrow the Supermag Rally Italia Sardinia 2005 , fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship and third round of the FIA Junior World Rally Championship. This evening there was the Ceremonial start from Porto Rotondo , but the real race will start tomorrow morning at 08.00 when the cars will exit the Olbia Service Park . After several days of feverish preparation, will start the first leg of a race that will get a move on the world classification. During the first leg will have a total length of 409 km, including 6 SS (137,86 km) all on gravel.
Three difficult and technical stages that will be quite selective, the one called Terranova of almost 30 km, the one of Crastazza of 20, 54km and the one of Mamone of 18,57 km. This special stage will start inside the Mamone Penitentiary . In this SS some convicts will work side by side with the marshals of the race as assistants.
The actual leader of the World Rally Championship Petter Solberg together with his co-driver Philip Mills with Subaru Impreza WRC, will be the first on the road. The Norwegian driver, winner of last year edition of Rally Italia Sardinia, will be followed by Sebastien The French driver will be at the wheel of a Citroen Xsara WRC together with his co-driver Daniel Elena. These two drivers will be challenging throughout the first part of the Championship. Petter Solberg won Rally Sweden and Rally Mexico, while Sebastien Loeb won Rally Monte Carlo and the recent Rally New Zealand.
On top of the manufacturer classification there is Peugeot with the two drivers Markko Martin and Marcus Gronholm, who will try to win their first race this season. The group of important entrants is not only this one. For the final win a lot of other drivers will be fighting, Tony Gardemeister, and Roman Kresta with Ford Focus WRC, Francois Duval with the second Citroen Xsara WRC, Armin Schwarz and Janne Tuohino, Skoda Fabia WRC, and the Australian Subaru driver Chris Atkinson and last but not least Gigi Galli. The Italian official Mitsubishi driver , during the FIA press conference express the wish to win his first rally here in Italy.
