A lot of bad luck for the OMV BIXXOL Rally Teams
Bad luck for the OMV BIXXOL Rally Teams at the "Rally Argentina". Following the sensational beginning on the two super stages on Thursday and Friday the brutality of the South American WRC-run caught up with them on Saturday. Newcomer Claudiu David (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) dropped out of the top 10 following gearbox troubles and lies in 20th place in the group N ranking after the second day. Stepan Vojtech/Michal Ernst, who are eligible to score for the FIA Production-Car World Rally Championship in Argentina, had an even tougher time. Due to shock absorber problems they dropped back to 18th place in the FIA Production-Car World Rally Championship after having already been close to scoring points.
Many little "traps"
There are definitely rallies that seem tougher at first sight. But in Argentina many little "traps" make life very hard for drivers, especially those in the series class. A fact that the two OMV BIXXOL Rally Teams learned the hard way. The Czech competitors Stepan Vojtech and Michal Ernst already had two time-consuming spins in the morning. Subsequently the many water crossings and slight jumps damaged the shock absorbers. Conclusion: instead of fighting for points the OMV duo found themselves in 18th place in the P-Car WRC ranking at the end of day two. Vojtech. "It is really extreme. Even though the jumps are neither high nor wide you still land very hard. Somehow we damaged our shock absorbers and lost oil. That was it, then."
The WRC-premiere of Claudio David and Mihaela Beldie doesn't go as planned, either. Following a sensational beginning gearbox troubles started to occur. Thus the Romanian OMV BIXXOL Rally Team lost the group N top 10 place. David: "It is still an incredibly great experience. We will continue to fight and try to achieve good times. Fortunately there are still several WRC assignments ahead for me this year. Then the result will be as planned, too."
Change of timeplan on Sunday
Following the cancellation of the first leg the final day of the Rally Argentina will be extended by one special stage. Therefore the SS "Mina Clavero" will be completed right at the beginning of day three. Subsequently the classic "El Condor" will take place twice, followed by "Mina Clavero" once more. The rally will be rounded up by the super stage in Cordoba which will be held as planned at 13:05 (local time). Thereby more than two thirds of the overall SS-kilometres will be completed which means that full points for the WRC will be awarded.
