Gigi Galli and Giovanni Bernacchini finished 7th overall in Rally Argentina, 4th round of the FIA World Rally Championship in their Ford Focus RS WRC of the Stobart VK M-Sport Ford team
Yesterday Gigi galli and his co-driver Giovanni Bernacchini had problems with the exhaust pipe of their car and despite the great job of the Ford Stobart team mechanics to repair the damage, the car couldn't get out of the service on time and the Italian crew had to retire. At that point Gigi Galli was 4th overall and had won one special stage and done some good times in the previous stages. This morning they re-start under SuperRally rule with 25 minutes penalty.
Last leg of rally Argentina provided 3 special stages, the famous and difficult El Condor and Giulio Cesare, two of the most tough stages of the entire Championship, and the final super special stage at the Cordoba stadium, that closed also the previous two legs, and this time has been disputed with inverted starts.
As usual the crowd of Argentine fans was huge and despite the rain that accompanied the whole event, the stages were packed with people. Finishing 7th Gigi Galli obtained important points for Ford in the manufacturers Championship.
"Last night I didn't think I could finish the race 7th" said Gigi "But well the race is not over until you get to the final ramp. It was a pity what happened yesterday, the mechanics did a great job and I really want to thank them. At the end of the day we finished the race and we drove some more kilometers on gravel. The car was feeling good despite the very poor weather conditions. We did some good times as well and won a stage, a good preparation for the next rally. We didn't push too much this morning, we tried to keep a points position. The weather on the stages was really bad, rain and some fog. Despite the weather there were a lot of spectators along the stages. It's been a tough race. Weather made problems for everyone. Now we will get ready for Rally Jordan in three weeks, that's going to be new for all of us".
Sebastien Loeb (Citroen C4) won Rally Argentina for the fourth time. He took the lead on SS5 and maintained his position to the end. Petter Solberg (Subaru), who was second., had an electric problem that stopped him on the first stage of the day and his team mate Chris Atkinson took his place. Third Dani Sordo (Citroen).
