Jones happy to finish Argentina
22 year old Stuart Jones was pleased to complete his second PWRC round, Rally Argentina after a catalogue of minor, but time consuming problems. Stuart ended the event ninth in class, narrowly missing out on PWRC points in his family run Mitsubishi Evo 9.
Stuart, who is co-driven by fellow Welshman Craig Parry in the Silverstone Tyres shod Mitsubishi, was left frustrated when after only one clean stage, damage to the top strut on the front suspension leg affected the handling of the car dramatically. They then suffered from a loss of power after the engine ingested water in one of Argentina's notorious water crossings.
Despite this the pair achieved their aim of completing every stage of the rally, and in doing so gained useful experience of the stages and the conditions.
'The rally was really frustrating for the whole team as after the first stage on Saturday we were seventh fastest-- and we weren't pushing hard. Considering we are a small privateer team on a really tight budget we did really well, recovering from those problems to finish ninth in PWRC. The stages were really rough, much rougher than I expected, and I learnt an enormous amount from competing in Argentina.' commented Stuart.
Stuart is now busy preparing to contest the third round of his PWRC campaign, which is the tough Acropolis Rally. The team, which is backed by PIAA, Teng Tools, Sparco, Custom Cages, Delivered on Time, Drive Me and Rallytech intends to tackle this event in the same was as the previous two rounds, at their own pace in an effort to learn the ropes and gain as much experience as possible.
The Stuart Jones supporters club will be out in force on this rally, supporting the young Welshmen throughout the weekend.
